1985: Graham Romanes spent the night in a home in remote village in the highlands of Tigray. At 2.30am he heard women leaving down the mountainside with their pots to collect water. Later that morning they returned carrying the 20kg pots full of water from the stream in the valley below. Falls and broken bodies were frequent and occasional deaths. For Graham this was motivation enough to work for better village water supplies over the next four decades.
